Last week we travelled to Canvastown which is about an hour and a half's drive from Nelson. This man called John taught us how to gold pan.

You need to first dig a hole down to the clay parts and then get you gold pan and fill it up with the clay stuff. Then you put water in and turn it around like a washing machine for about 30 seconds and then you scrape all the top layer off lightly. Then do the washing machine thing once more. And then you do the wave and let the water come up onto the pan and scoop the lighter stones out. The gold is heavier than the rocks and will sink to the bottom. Keep on doing that until you are left with just gold. Put the gold into a little container of clear water.

We went swimming in the river and the parents had to make sure there was no big rocks underneaeth when we jumped off.

In the free time the boys played cricket while the girls were practising for the camp concert.

Hi Maungatapu,
how is things going? down here is ok but boy can the weather get cold! my new school is called Ohoka and it is no where near as cool as Appleby, honest! we went on camp just last week and I did Abseiling on a big rock, a small mountain actually. we went to Orton Bradley Park in Diamond Harbour. my teacher is called mrs edwards but Pete your way better than her.at camp I also did a leap of faith which is a big jump.you have a haness on and climbing up the tree is the easy part because there are little hooks to hold on to but trying to jump of the little platform at the top is the hardest thing ever. you just jump out off the platform so you hang in mid air and by the way there is a little trapze that you have got to try and jump to. I managed to touch it boy is it scary. anyway say hello to everyback there and Ruby say hello to emily for me (please). briony, hope you got my letter thanks for the note in my friendship book.MISS YOU ALL HEAPS,write back soon. my email is:sandk.taylor@roar.net.nz,(i don't have a blog) luv georgia xx
